Dewey Winburne Community Service Award

Congratulations to #Fulbright alumnus Ali Gohar for being honored with a Dewey Winburne Community Service Award (2016) last weekend, as part of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive conference in Austin, Texas. Named after Dewey Winburne, one of the original co-founders of the #SXSW Interactive Festival, each spring, ten recipients are recognized for their work in education and technology. The winner receives a cash prize and an opportunity to present their work at the event. Gohar was recognized for his work promoting conflict resolution through jirgas – an ancient network of community-justice councils and for his advocacy on behalf of Afghan refugees.

Gohar successfully completed a Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution from Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) on a #Fulbright grant. He was also recently conferred the first Alumni Award for Outstanding Service by the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at EMU.

We are delighted with your success! Great job, Gohar!
